FM Youth Soccer Club's Lightning Policy
The FM Youth Soccer Club follows the FM School District's policy regarding Thunder and Lightning.
1) Thunder and lightning necessitates that contests, practices, and outdoor activity be suspended. The occurrence of thunder and/or lightning is not subject to interpretation or discussion.
2) When thunder is heard and/or when lightning is seen, the following should take place:
a) Suspend play and direct participants to take shelter, either in a building normally occupied by the public or inside a vehicle with a solid metal top (car, van, bus).
b) Do not permit anyone to stand under or near a tree; and stay away from poles, antennas, towers and underground watering systems.
c) Play may only resume 30 minutes after thunder and/or lightning have left the area -- that is a full 30 minutes after the last boom is heard or strike is seen before resuming play or competition.
d). Generally, if thunder or lightning occurs prior to a FM Youth Soccer game, that game cannot begin until 30 minutes after last audible boom or visible strike. If lightning or thunder occurs at or after half-time, the rest of the contest should be cancelled.
